Several hundred people of Bhabadah affected areas in Jashore and Khulna on Tuesday demanded implementation of Tidal River Management Project (TRM) immediately.
They gathered at the premises of deputy commissioner’s office in Jashore and submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the DC. Bhabadah Water Mitigation Movement Committee organised the programme.
Around ten lakh people of Abhaynagar, Monirampur, Keshabpur and sadar upazila of Jashore, Dumuria and Phultala of Khulna district and Tala upazia in Satkhira suffer for several months during the rainy season every year as the rivers of the area become silted, the committee leaders said. The local rivers -Sree, Hari, Teka and Mukteswari were at edge of death due to the faulty construction of sluice gates built in 60s at Bhabadah in Jashore, they said.

Situated 25 kilometers away from Moulvibazar's Srimangal upazila sadar, Alubari is a remote hillock area. A total of 67 families live in the hillock, which is about 120-foot high from the ground.…
