Seminar on ‘Rohingya Influx in Bangladesh’ held at IUB
The School of Environmental Science and Management of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised a seminar on ‘Rohingya Influx in Bangladesh: Impact on Water and Environment’ yesterday on the campus in Bashundhara. Farah Kabir, country director of ActionAid was the keynote speaker of the seminar. Abdul Khaleque, dean of School of Environmental Science and Management also attended the programme. Farah Kabir focused on major facts that influenced environmental imbalance in Cox’s Bazar. She stated that whole forest area in the district is cleaned out and asian elephants, other animals are becoming critically vulnerable due to this crisis. Alongside, most of the tube wells in refugee camps are dysfunctional as the underground water level has been depleted. For this, the quality of drinking water is one of the major concerns, she added. Prof Dr KAyaz Rabbani, head of Department of Environmental Science, senior members of the faculty and a large number of students attended the programme.
Prof Laila Arjuman Banu made RU student adviser
Rajshahi University: Prof Laila Arjuman Banu of the Chemistry department has been made new student adviser of Rajshahi University (RU). RU Vice-chancellor Prof M Abdus Sobhan appointed her to the post, said RU Administrator (Public Relations) Dr Provash Kumar Karmokar. Prof Laila Arjuman Banu joined the office around 12 noon on Monday, he said. The post of the student adviser fell vacant after former adviser Prof Zannatul Ferdous was appointed VC of ZH Sikdar University of Science and Technology on April 18 last. Later, Dr Provash Kumar Karmokar was made acting student adviser.
Two-day job fair begins at SUST today
A two-day job fair to be organised by Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) Career Club will begin on the campus today. SUST Vice-chancellor Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed will inaugurate the career festival at 10 am at the basketball ground. Seminars, workshops, skill development programmes, career talks and other events to enrich the students’ knowledge and create a pathway to the global career will be held at the event, said Sharmin Sultana Mimi, president of the SUST Career Club. Different companies, including Grameenphone, Coca-Cola, Decathlon, Walton, BRAC, Staff Asia, Confidence Group, Green Bud, ACME, Sylcon Enterprise, Aftab Bahumukhi Farms Ltd, Super Star Group, Rise School, Royal Graduate Enterprise, ART.com, will participate in the festival, she said.
Seven-day BNCC training begins at IU
Islamic University: A 7-day annual training programme of Bangladesh National Cadet Core (BNCC) of Khulna Regiment began at Islamic University (IU) yesterday. IU Vice-chancellor Prof M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari inaugurated the function as the chief guest at Birsreshta Hamidur Rahman Auditorium of the university around 10:00am. IU Pro-VC Prof M Shahinoor Rahman, Treasurer Professor M Selim Toha and Lt Col M Imran Azad of Sundarban Regiment addressed the programme as the special guests while BNCC chief coordinator Prof M Jahangir Hossain was on the chair. A total of 205 cadet corps and trainers are taking part in the programme. The participants will receive certificates after completion of the training to be ended on October 8.
