Two DB men hurt as ‘drug peddlers’ attack in Rajshahi

 Two members of police including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI were injured as ‘drug peddlers’ allegedly attacked on members of Detective Branch (DB) of police during the anti-narcotics drive in Char Khidirpur area of Katakhali in the city on Monday evening. The injured police members were identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Mahabub Hossain and Constable Sujon Chandra. They both have been admitted to the department of Neurosurgery ward of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

Metropolitan Police spokesman and Senior Assistant Commissioner Ifte Khair Alam said, “A team of detective branch conducted the drive in the area to seize the drugs. During the drive, they detained a drug trader Akkas Ali along with the drug. However; on information, a gang of drug traders attacked on the police and snatched the detainee.

During the incident, the drug traders beat up police repeatedly by iron rod, and bamboo and leavening them serious injured. However; additional police rushed to the spot and rescued two injured police members. Later, the injured were taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Dr Shamsul Huda, Assistant Register of Neurosurgery ward of RMCH, said both Mahabub and Sunjon have head injuries and the left leg of Sujon is broken. After getting reports of some tests including CT scan, their full physical status can be reported, Dr Huda added.

Meanwhile, after the incident police conducted a raid in Char Khidirpur area on Monday late night and arrested two person named Nurul Mazhi, 37, and Gias Uddin, 38 of Char Khidirpur area.

Nibaron Chardra Barman, officer In charge of Katahkali police station, said DB police will file a case in this connection after that Katakhali thana police will investigate. But the case has not been filed till this afternoon, he added.

It is learnt avoiding arrest, male people of Char Khidirpur area fled the village after the incident. Females are also taking shelter elsewhere. They, however, blamed that some people introducing themselves as police men rushed to their house by force and looted cash and expensive accessories in the name of search.

There is no basis for such information; made this comment Ifte Khayer Alam said we strictly instructed our forces that common people should not be harassed in any way. To make the police controversial, locals may raise these allegations, Alam said.
