Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman yesterday issued an order to enhance security on the central bank premises after a guard of State Bank of India allegedly stole Tk5 lakh from the bank on Sunday.Talking to The Independent yesterday afternoon, AFM Asaduzzaman, general manager of Bangladesh Bank, said the governor himself held several meetings with the top officials and ordered to find out the names of the BB bank officials if there had been any negligence on their part. State Bank of India has already suspended Dipak Chandra Das, who was caught red handed while committing the theft, the GM added. Dipok, a guard of State Bank of India, allegedly stole Tk5 lakh from the vault of Bangladesh Bank on Sunday. The bank authorities interrogated him but initially he denied committing the theft. Finally, his involvement was confirmed through examining the footage of the CCTV of the bank, sources said. As seen in the footage, it took Dipak only 46 seconds to commit the heist. The incident happened between 5:17pm and 5:18pm. Dipak secretly took away one bundle of money containing 1,000 notes of Tk 500 denomination from the huge amount of money of Dutch-Bangla Bank brought to the central bank. After hiding the stolen money, he again went there. When the central bank officials asked him about the theft, he denied.  But as the CCTV footage showing him stealing the money was presented, he admitted.
