Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia yesterday called upon all particularly the responsible people in the society to abide by laws to bring discipline in traffic, reports BSS. “The culture of disobeying laws is our main problem. It will be difficult for anybody to bring discipline in traffic as people intend to go haywire in following the laws,” he said after visiting the overall traffic management at Sonargaon Crossing in the capital yesterday morning.
“Let all of us follow the traffic rules and inspire others in doing so to bring discipline in traffic,” he said calling upon the city dwellers to join hands with traffic police to this end.
“Traffic department has been working relentlessly to bring discipline in traffic and police have no negligence in this regard,” he said, adding that DMP at its own initiative has already set up 130 signboards inscribing bus stop area in different points of the capital aimed at ensuring pick up and
drop off facilities available at the designated spots.
Referring to the month-long traffic awareness campaign of the DMP, Asaduzzaman said, “We have achieved success in bringing discipline in traffic system. But the desired success is yet to be attained. Complete success can
be achieved only if we can change the mindset of the people in obeying traffic rules and regulations.”
“Traffic police has realised Taka 7 crore as fine for traffic rule violations alongside dumping and wrecking many vehicles during the month long drive (from September 4 to September 30),” he informed. “Besides taking legal action against traffic rule violations different awareness programmes such as distributing leaflets, holding view exchanges with drives and transport workers, have been held during the period to make people aware in obeying the traffic regulations, he added. Asaduzzaman has sounded a note of warning against traffic rule violators saying, “No irregularity will be conducted by the DMP and it will allow none to do the same. The DMP will do everything to bring discipline in traffic.”
