Heavy downpour paralysed Barisal city life from Sunday to till filing the report that caused immense suffering to the residents. Most of the citizens confined themselves inside the room and presence in educational institutions was less than normal days. Very few transports plied city roads demanding higher fare from the passengers. Low lying areas of the city went under knee deep water due to lack of proper drainage and sewerage system, and over flooded river and canal banks, caused sufferings to the city dwellers.
Makeshift shops, hawker markets remained closed in most of the parts of the day and kitchen markets facing very few customers as people not coming out from home without emergency needs. Abul Basher Majumdar, deputy director Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority, said river said all water transport operations from Barisal river port continued in others Inland River ports asked to hoist signal no.1. However water transport operators asked to operate cautiously following weather condition and reports, said Mustafizur Rahman, Barisal river port official. Pranab Kumar Roy, senior observer at Barisal office of meteorological department, said weather in the city and surrounding areas remained rainy with breaks, cloudy with sultriness and 73.2 millimeter rainfall was recorded in last 48-hour. Water logging created on different low areas of the city due to unplanned drainage and people living on low lying areas, river and canal banks were marooned due to downpour.
Attendances in different offices, commercial places, financial institutions, educational institutions were thin due to rain. On the other hand movement of transports was fewer than normal others day due to adverse weather condition. Abdur Rashid, deputy director of cyclone preparedness programme (CPP) of Red Crescent at Barisal, said residents on different shoals of the region are worst sufferers from downpour.  CPP volunteers were remained alert to face any change of condition, Rashid further added. Zahiruddin Ahmed, executive engineer Water Development Board, Barisal office, claimed that rivers in Barisal district are swelling, but still under danger level.
