President goes to Kishoreganj today
President M Abdul Hamid is set to visit his home district of Kishoreganj September 24-28 to attend several programmes. “The president will leave for Kishoreganj on Monday for a five-day visit . . . He will address several public meetings and hold view-exchange meetings at Austagram, Itna and Mithamain,” his press secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS yesterday. This will be the second visit of Abdul Hamid to his village home in the remote areas of Kishoreganj after he took oath of office as the country’s president for the second consecutive term on April 24. The helicopter, carrying the President, is scheduled to leave Dhaka at about 12 noon.
4,883 adolescent clubs launched
A project for setting up adolescent clubs across the country was inaugurated at a function at Bangladesh Shishu Academy in the capital on Saturday. Sate Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroze Chumki formally launched the project, being implemented under the Department of Women Affairs, said an official release here. Women Affairs Department Director General Kazi Rowshon Akter presided over the inaugural function, which was addressed by Women and Children Affairs Secretary Nasima Begum, Bangladesh Shishu Academy Selina Hossain and Dhaka Divisional Commissioner KM Ali Azam, among others. Under the project, 4883 clubs will be set up across the country aiming at making aware the adolescents about their personal safety and ‘sexual and reproductive health and rights’ (SRHR) to prevent eve teasing, child marriage, gender based violence and so on, the release added. The each club will have 30 members, including 20 girls and 10 boys.
2 killed in Chattogram road crash
Two people were killed following a collision among a car, a microbus and a parked CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Panchlaish in the port city early Sunday. The deceased were identified as auto rickshaw driver Md Hanif, 40, son of Md Mostafa of Halishahar Brick Field area and car passenger Md Fardin, 18, son of Abul Bashar Milon of Nasirabad Batagoli area in the city. The collision took place when a microbus coming down from ‘King of Chittagong’ club hit a car which was going towards the club and the auto-rickshaw was standing on the road, said Sub-inspector Jahirul Haque, in-charge of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) outpost, leaving the duo critically injured. Later, the injured were rushed to the hospital where the duty doctors declared them dead, he added.
World Space Week Oct 6
Preparations are going in full swing to celebrate World Space Week-2018 on October 6 on the premises of Mohakash Bhaban at Enayetpur, says a press release. A delegation consists of 12 members led by Krishna Raj Adhikary, chairman of Nepal Scientific Activities and Research Centre (NESARC) , Kathmandu, is scheduled to arrive Enayetpur on October 5 to attend the celebration. In 2011, on behalf of United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) two eminent Astronomers, Dr Robert Hill and Dr Sarah Roberts from UK had come to Enayetpur to jointly celebrate World Space Week-2011 on October 5.
‘Rising Star Skill Competition’ ends
The second phase of a selection contest titled ‘Rising Star Skill Competition’ in fashion technology category concluded on Saturday at the certified lab of Underprivileged Children’s Education Programmes (UCEP) in the capital’s Mirpur area. National Skill Development Council (NSDC) in association with Team Group organized the two-day competition to find out the right competitors for participating in the 45th World Skill Competition scheduled to be held at Kazan in Russia from August 22 to 23 in 2019, said a press release here. A total of 50 contestants from different universities took part at the competition. Out of them, five will be primarily selected for an 11-month-long training and after completion of the training two will be finally selected for participating in the competition.
