The body of a young man who jumped into a river in Mehendiganj upazila on Saturday after being chased by police was recovered yesterday, reports UNB. The deceased is Shahfiqul Islam Tuhin, 35, son of Ahsanullah Khan of Harinathpur in Hijla upazila. His body was retrieved from the Lata River in the afternoon. Officer-in-charge of Kazirhat Police Station Harunur Rashid said a group of youths, including Tuhin, who was playing gambling in a garden of Joynagar area on Saturday afternoon when police conducted a drive there.
In a bid to evade arrest, the youths started running while Tuhin jumped into the river and went missing, he said. Though police claimed that Tuhin was involved in drug trading, his uncle and chairman of Harinathpur union parishad Abdul Latif said the youth completed his study recently and was scheduled to go abroad next week
with job.
