Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed yesterday said the country's exports would reach 60 billion US dollars by 2021 which happens to be the Golden Jubilee Year of Independence of the country, reports BSS.
The minister was speaking at a "Bangladesh Business Forum" organised jointly by the Milan Chamber of Commerce and the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) at the Milan Expo-2015, according to news received in Dhaka.
In his speech the minister said that Bangladesh had diversified its exports and its export basket was no longer limited to readymade garments.
"Today Bangladesh also exports pharmaceuticals, cement, toiletries, electronic equipment, leather goods and IT services," he said. The minister said that currently the annual exports of the country stood at over 31 billion US dollars and was increasing at a whopping rate of 12.5 per cent, per annum. After the seminar a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Milan Chamber of Commerce and the EPB.
