Bangladesh Bank (BB) instructed all banks to maintain enough cash in all ATMs (automated teller machines) at all times, especially during the holiday for Eid-ul-Azha, reports BSS.
All the banks will remain closed for three days for Eid-ul-Azha, beginning on Thursday. However, the branches of the banks at various customs stations will remain open on Thursday, the day before Eid to facilitate external trade, especially export of garments. The central bank in a circular issued on Monday also asked the banks to ensure adequate security at their branches and ATMs' sites.
"The circular has been issued so the banks can offer their clients daily services efficiently," BB said in the circular.
The circular was issued against the backdrop of complaints about cash shortage in some banks' branches and ATMs that caused hassles to public. The central bank also issued such directive before Eid-ul-Fitr asking the banks ensuring cash in ATMs during festival.
