Stocks up on higher transaction

Stocks managed to hold onto gains and all the indices were green at close yesterday as transaction rose on moderately higher activities, reports BSS.
The market as a whole was on the positive track for another session when shares of companies producing consumers’ goods captured investors’ attention.
“As only one day was left before a five-day long holiday, investors concentrated on repositioning their stocks in portfolio”, said Lanka Bangla Securities Limited.
Some stocks came in focus, which improved participation and drove the daily turnover value higher by 24.31 per cent when the trade volume was nearly 5.0 per cent up.
The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) gained 10.93 points on the higher activities and finished the day at 4841.62, with the blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES finishing up at 1855.90 and 1187.18 respectively.
The daily trade value was Tk 519.64
crore for transaction of 10.57 crore shares while 148 issues ended higher against 124 losing securities.
Among the major sectors food and allied, fuel and power and textile finished up while bank and mutual funds were down.
The top five gainers at close were 7th ICB, Bangas, Northern, Zahin Textile and Phenix Insurance.
The major lagging issues at close were Monno Stafflers, BD Auto Cars, Zeal Bangla, Aman Feed and Anwar Galvanizing.
KPCL topped the turnover list followed by BSRM Steel, Beximco Pharma, United Air, Saif Power and Aman Feed.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also maintained upward trend yesterday, with its major CSCX index closing 10.61 points up at 9018.10.
Out of the traded 236 issues, 107 ended higher and 92 lower when 93 lakh shares worth Tk 39.53 crore changed hands.
