Bangladesh girls keep scoring spree

Bangladesh Under-16 national women’s football team kept their impressive run in the AFC Under-16 women’s qualifying (first round) phase when they overpowered Lebanon by 8-0 yesterday at the Bir Sreshtha Mostafa Kamal Stadium in the capital.

Bangladesh, after their goal galore victory of 10-0 over Bahrain in the opening match, continued the momentum to earn full six points from two matches.     

Sajeda and Shamsunanar (jr) scored twice, Anai Mogini, Tohura and Rojina Akhtar added one each while one goal came from an own goal of Maria Slim of Lebanon, as Bangladesh grabbed another big margin win.

Lebanon, who was rated one of the favourites in the Group F of the competition, along with Bangladesh and Vietnam and also tipped off after an 8-0 victory over Bahrain and 6-3 against United Arab Emirates but could not throw any strong challenge to hosts. However, the Bangladesh girls began the match in style when they went very closer and opened spaces to have two goals lead inside 10 minutes but a Touhura close range effort was saved by a defender on eighth minute and Sajeda failed to beat goalkeeper when she edged past the defenders and shot the ball straight to keeper in one on one situation two minutes later.

But the favourites took 14 minutes to go ahead when Sajeda did not miss her second attempt finding the goalkeeper in same situation and this time she snatched the ball possession taking the opponents defense lapse and edged past the markers to enter into the box before beating the advancing keeper to open the floodgate (1-0).

After scoring the first goal Bangladesh’s girls did not look back and scored four more goals in the opening 45 minutes, when they put the opponents into huge pressure and had an own goal when Lebanon defender Maria trying to clear a Tohura goal bound effort kicked the ball into their own post on 20th minute.

Touhura further increased the margin just in the next minute and it was a piece of good skill when she got the possession of a cross from Monica with her right foot and dribbled past two defenders before  entering into the open space and sent the ball into far post with an angular shot (3-0).

Anai Mogini and Sajeda added one each to make the first half margin 5-0.

Bangladesh maintained their domination also in the second half  when they hardly allowed the opponents very in their area and scored three more goals with Shamsunnahar struck twice and substitute Rojina also celebrated scoring one goal (8-0).

Bangladesh will take on Vietnam, another favourites on September 23 in their last match.
