JnU forms committee to hold first convocation
Jagannath University (JnU) authorities yesterday formed a committee to hold its maiden convocation. The committee will recommend the place, schedule, planning and all the relevant activities as soon as possible to hold the convocation, said a JnU press release.
JnU Arts Faculty Dean Prof Dr Md Atiar Rahman was made as the convener of the committee while Deputy Registrar of university’s administration and academic and council was made as the member secretary of the committee.
The first meeting of the committee will be held on September 24, 2018.
UGC delegation visits Begum Rokeya University
RANGPUR: A six-member team of University Grants Commission (UGC) on Tuesday completed three-day visit to Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) to examine possibility of opening five new departments in the university.
UGC member Prof M Shah Newaz Ali led the team, said a press release here this evening.
Other members of the team were Director of the IMCT division of UGC Khondker Hamidur Rahman, its Director of the Public University Management division Md Kamal Hossain, Director (Finance and Accounts) Rezaul Karim Hawlader, Deputy Director of the Public University Management division Muhammad Nazmul Islam and its Assistant Director Rabiul Islam. The proposed five new Departments are Philosophy, Film and Media Studies, World Religion, Disability and Development Studies and Election Management. During the visit, the team examined various aspects of the proposed departments, human resources, pensions and gratuities, MPhil and PhD related subjects at Dr Wazed Research and Training Institute of the university and other relevant matters.
The team members exchanged views several times with teachers and officials of the university at the conference room in the administrative building during the visit.
Presided over by UGC member Prof Shah Newaz, Vice-chancellor (VC) of the university Prof Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah moderated the views-sharing meetings.
Registrar of BRUR Muhammad Ibrahim Kabir, President of Begum Rokeya University Teachers’ Association Prof Dr Gazi Mazharul Anwar, its General Secretary Tabiur Rahman and other officials, among others, attended the meeting. The VC extended full cooperation to the visiting UGC team during the three-day visit, the release added.
Islamic University inter-dept football held
Islamic University: An inter-department football competition began at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia on Sunday amid festive mood and much enthusiasm.
IU Pro-VC Professor M Shahinoor Rahman, also the acting vice-chancellor, inaugurated the competition as the chief guest at the central football playground of the university around10:30am. A total of 32 departments out of 33 will take part in the contest, Muhammad Sohel, director of IU Physical Education department, said. IU Treasurer Professor M Selim Toha, Proctor Professor M Mahbubar Rahman, Student Advisor Professor M Rezwanul Islam, Tourism and Hospitality Management department chairman Professor M Mahbubul Arefin and its lecturer Shariful Islam Jewel, among others, were present.
