Flood hits 8 unions in Jamalpur

Low-lying areas of eight unions in Islampur and Dewanganj upazila of the district had been inundated by flood water for last three days.
Water Development Board (WDB) officials said though the water level in Jamuna river dropped by 1 cm during the last 24 hours as of 12 noon on Tuesday but it was still flowing 4 cm above the red mark at Bahadurabad ghat point.
Flood water affected five unions of Patharshi, Kulkandi, Belgachha, Chinaduli and Noarpara in Islampur upazila and three unions of Bahadurabad, Chikajani and Chukaibari in Dewanganj upazila, they said.
District administration allotted 10 tons of rice and 400 packets of dried food for Islampur upazila and 5 tons of rice and 250 packets of dried food for Dewanganj upazila to distribute those among e flood victims.

Man ‘trampled to death’ by elephant in Moulvibazar
Moulvibazar: A local leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) was reportedly trampled to death by a wild elephant in Sagarnal area of Juri upazila on Tuesday night, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Azmal Ali Shamim, 45, former president of Kulaura upazila unit JCD and son of Amzad Ali of Sadhanpur village in the upazila.
Quoting locals, Sub-inspector Kamruzzaman of Juri Police Station said Shamim came under the attack of a wild elephant when he was returning home in the night.
On information, police recovered the body from the spot around 7 am on Wednesday and sent it to Sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy. A sign of elephant feet was found on the face of Shamim, police said.
Worker dies falling off building
Joypurhat: A female worker died after falling from the under-construction Muktijoddha Complex in the bus stand area of Panchbibi upazila headquarters on Tuesday noon, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Monwara Begum, 29, wife of Soharab Hossain of Ganeshpur village in the upazila. Farid Hossain, officer-in-charge of Panchbibi Police Station, said Monwara fell from the under-construction building while working on the 3rd floor, leaving her critically injured.
