Education Day observed

The historic Education Day was observed in different educational institutions in the city with a call to introduce a pro-people education system in the country. Different student organisations demanded release of noted photographer Shahidul Alam other students detained under ICT Act marking the day.
Left-leaning organisation Bangladesh Chhatra Federation arranged a human chain on Sadar Road of the city yesterday morning. Rezaul Islam Khokon, Abdur Rashid Nilu, Harunur Rashid, Moshiur Rahman Khan, Mustafizur Rahman were present in the programme. The speakers demanded release of Chhatra Federation leader Maruf Ahmed.
After the human chain programme a procession was brought out that paraded the main city throughfares. The day was observed to commemorate the sacrifices of three students -- Mostafa, Babul and Wajiullah -- who were killed in police firing while staging a demonstration protesting against the SM Sharif Education Commission formed in 1962.
