Minor murdered after rape
Kushtia: A minor girl was killed after being raped by unidentified miscreant at Mitonkhasimara area in Mirpur Upazila in the district, reports UNB.
The victim was identified as Sabia, 6, daughter of a day laborer of the area. Locals said that the girl went missing on September 14 evening. The next day her body was found in a ditch beside paddy fields in Mitonkhasimara. OC of Mirpur Police Station Rafikul Islam said they detained a man after a case was filed over the matter.
Man shot to death in Pabna
Pabna: A Union Parishad member’s son was shot dead at Niamatpur village in Atghoria upazila on Sunday evening, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Ilbaz Hossain,45, son of UP member Esem of the area. Witness Abdul Matin of the village said a group of armed miscreants attacked Ilbaz at an open field near Niamatpur graveyard in the evening, firing multiple gunshots that left him dead on the spot. The killers soon fled the scene.
Officer-in-Charge of Atghoria Police Station Anwar Hossain confirmed the incident. No-one has been identified as a suspect yet, although word in the remote rural community suggests Ilbaz had his rivals, who could and would resort to such action.
Couple, 4 others held with yaba
Bogura: Police in a drive arrested six people, including a couple, along with 2100 pieces of Yaba tablets from two houses in district town on Sunday, reports UNB.
The arrestees are Naimul Hasan Shanta, 25, son of ZahedurRahman, Shanta’s wife Shimu, 23 of Thanthania Hazipara Lane in the upazila, Laboni, 28, wife of Nahid Alam, Mariam Akter Nipu, 25, wife of Ashadul Kabir, Monika, 20, wife of Rusho and Lokman Hossain, 45, son of Abul Kashem of Naogaon district.
Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive at four flats in Jaleshwartoli and Sutrapur areas and arrested them along with the Yaba tablets around 10 am, said Sanatan Chakrawarty, additional superintendent of Bogura Police.
The arrestees have long been involved in drug trading in rented flats in the town.
LGED implements massive works in road sector in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA: Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) implemented huge development works in road communication sector last nine years and a half during the tenure of the present government, reports BSS.
Office sources said a total of 650 km roads were constructed in seven upazilas of the district at the cost of TK 350 crore, and 34 bridges were also built over the rivers and the canals at the cost of TK 110 crore during the period.
Apart from it, as many as 800 km of road were also maintained and repaired at the cost of TK 100 crore at the direct supervision of the department, said Ahsan Kabir, senior assistant engineer of LGED.
Executive engineer of LGED Abdur Rahim Shaikh told the quality has been ensured in the development works of the roads and the bridges as per the terms and condition of the schedules prepared by the department.
Besides, 3 upazila parishad bhaban, 20 union parishad bhaban, 739 primary school buildings had been constructed side by side with developing 12 growth centers during the period, he added.
30 arrested in Dinajpur
DINAJPUR: Law enforcers, in special drives arrested 30 persons including seven drug traders from different areas of the district in last 12-hour ending at 8am yesterday morning, reports BSS.
Law enforcers also seized 137 bottles of Phensidyl, 11 cocktails and 200 liters of locally-made liquor during the drives. Police said they were picked up from different areas of the district on different charges.
During the drives, Dinajpur Sadar police arrested eight persons along with 11 cocktails around 11 pm, Birganj Thana police arrested three persons, Birampur Thana police arrested three persons, Kaharole Thana police arrested three persons, Khansama Thana police arrested two persons, Hakimpur Thana police arrested two persons, Parbatipur Thana police arrested four drug traders along with 200 liters of locally-made liquor and Bochaganj Thana police arrested two persons.
Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added.
Meanwhile, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive detained three drug traders along with 137 bottles of Phensidyl around 11pm from Hili Railway Station in Hakimpur upazila of the district.
