‘Steps taken to legalise illegal workers in Malaysia’

Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc yesterday said the government has taken various steps to regularise the irregular Bangladesh nationals living in Malaysia, reports UNB.

Minister Islam said a rehiring programme for the registered workers will continue to get visas until September 15 this year.

“Taking visas, they can continue to stay as regular workers,” he said while responding to a question from Md Shafiqul Islam Shimul (Natore-2) in Parliament.

During her visit in 2014, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina requested the Malaysian government to regularise irregular workers from Bangladesh in Malaysia, said the minister.

Responding to another question from AKM Rahmatullah (Dhaka-11), he said the government is committed to protecting Bangladesh nationals who intend to go abroad from harassment and frauds.
