Shop employee burnt to death in Ctg  

A shop employee was burned to death as a fire broke out in an area under Bayezid thana in Chattogram city early yesterday. The deceased was identified as Md Sohel.

Kamal Uddin, deputy director of Agrabad Fire Service, said that the fire broke out in Amin Jute Mill area early in the morning following an electric short circuit and gutted at least 19 houses and a shop. On information, two units of Agrabad fire brigade rushed in and doused the flame. Later, the fire fighting team recovered Sohel’s charred body from the shop.

Five held with 200 gold bars

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested five people along with 200 gold bars worth Tk 9 crore from Moinot Ghat area in Dhohar on Friday morning.

The arrestees were identified as Md Mohsin Khan, 47, Firoz Ahmed, 34, Md Siddiq, 46, Md Mizan, 34 and Aminul Islam, 47. Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-11 recovered the gold bars and detained five people for illegally possessing the bars inside their bodies, said a RAB press release.

Man arrested  with counterfeit currencies

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Thursday night arrested a man along with huge counterfeit Indian currency notes which were illegally produced at his house in Beldapara area in Rajshahi city.

The elite force members also seized several currency-making machines and other equipment, said Aman Ullah, officer-in-charge of Bualia Police Station.

A special team of RAB-2 from Dhaka conducted the drive and arrested the house owner Daroduzzaman Biswas alias Zaman, 57, son of Rahidul Islam, hailing from Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district. Later on Friday morning, a local court sent him to jail, said the OC. Zaman, well known as the mastermind for fake Indian currency producer and trader, was accused in three cases.

3 missing as boat capsizes

At least three people including two sisters went missing as a boat sank in the Buriganga river after being hit by a launch at Telghat area on Friday evening. The identities of the missing could not be known immediately.

The boat carrying three people including two girls—aged around 4 and 16 years-sank in the mid-river after a launch hit it around 6 pm, said Md Station Shahjahan, officer-in-charge of Dakkhin Keraniganj Police Station.
