Citing Bangladesh as a development role model among the international community, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday said many countries, including Pakistan, now want to be like Bangladesh, reports UNB.
Quoting a Pakistani television channel talk-show, the minister said some Pakistani scholars requested their newly elected Prime Minister Imran Khan to make Pakistan like Bangladesh within 10 years.
“But this Pakistan once had dominated our country for a long time. Now Bangladesh is ahead of Pakistan in many sectors,” he said.
Nahid came up with the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a daylong International Conference and discussion organisedby Allama Rumi Society of Bangladesh held at Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium of Dhaka University (DU) Social Science Building.
Iranian Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Abbas Vaezi, DU Social Sciences Faculty Dean Prof Dr Sadeka Halim and Prof Dr AKM Saiful Islam Khan of DU’s Persian Language and Culture department, among others, addressed the function.
Pointing to the young generation, the minister said, “The young generation is our future. They must develop good ethics and humanity. Without the practice of humanity, no one can be a proper and successful human being.”
