Body formed at police HQs to look into matter

UNB

Bangladesh Police has formed a committee to look into a survey report that found out the law enforcement agencies as the most corrupt service sector in the country, reports UNB.

Over a week after the publication of the survey report by the Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Javed Patwary yesterday said that he came to know about the report through media but hasn't read the survey report and will be able to comment after reading the report.

He, however, confirmed that “A committee was formed in police headquarters to look into the matter.”

The IGP was talking to newsmen yesterday after attending a programme of distribution of scholarships among the meritorious children of police members at PSC Convention Hall in Mirpur-14. Earlier on August 30, TIB survey revealed that the law enforcement agencies are the most corrupt service sector (72.5 pc) in Bangladesh followed by the Department of Immigration and Passport (67.3 pc) and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) (65.4 pc).

In response to a question regarding election, IGP Mohammad Javed Patwary said that any move to create anarchy, chaos and sabotage and make country unstable in the name of movement centring the upcoming national election will not be tolerated.

He said that “Bangladesh Police is capable of tackling any situation. They have enough preparation and also taking preparation to tackle all the situations. In the name of movement centring the election, any move to create instability in the country or sabotage, arson attack will not be allowed.”

Answering a question about the arrest of BNP leaders, the IGP said “The arrests of BNP men have no relation with the election. Police arrest only those who are accused in different cases or have arrest warrants against them.”
