MADARIPUR: Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan yesterday said stern steps have been taken for providing safety and security to homebound people using waterways ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, reports BSS.
“Police, river police, RAB, coast guard members and highway police will provide special security
to homebound people at every river port and pier as well as ferry jetty across the country,” he told journalists after visiting Kawrakandi ferry terminal at Shibchar in the district.
He said the special security will be provided from five days before and seven days after the Eid-ul-Azha.
The minister warned the launch owners not to carry extra passengers.
“We won’t let anyone to carry extra passengers. If required, district and police administration will do headcount before departure of launches,” he said.
The minister said the government will take stern action, if anyone carries extra passengers.
“We will provide ferries, if there is pressure of extra passengers,” he said.
