Sriram to help out Aussies in Bangladesh

Former India cricketer S Sriram is poised to make history by becoming the consultant of the Australian senior team which will tour Bangladesh next month. This is the first time an Indian will be part of the coaching staff of a senior Australian team on a tour, reports The Hindu.

It has learnt from reliable sources that the Chennai-based 39-year-old will travel with the Australians for the two-Test series beginning at Chittagong on October 9.
Sriram had been a consultant for Australia ‘A’ when it toured India in July-August this year, winning the two-Test unofficial series in Chennai 1-0. The Australians were impressed with his inputs that helped the side cope with the sub-continental conditions. The elevation to the senior side would mark a huge leap for Sriram.
A left-handed top-order batsman and a left-arm spinner in his playing days, he worked with the Australia ‘A’ players in both the batting and bowling departments.
Tightening the defensive technique of the Aussies to enable them attack judiciously and imparting the value of creating angles in the spinners were among his major contributions to the Australia ‘A’ side. The Australians will expect valuable inputs from Sriram in what could prove a tough campaign against a much-improved Bangladesh side.
