Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken a pilot project for decentralisation of cricket which will be accomplished step by step across the country. Mahbub Anam, vice-president of the BCB, said this at a seminar – “Grassroots and our cricket”, organised by the Bangladesh Sports Journalist Association (BSJA) held at the Dutch Bangla Bank Auditorium in the capital yesterday .
It was a much talked issue for a long time to expand the cricket operation all over the country to boost up the grassroots cricket. Cricket organisers and former national captains also addressed the seminar while they identified the problems and the way how can get rid of those hindrances to work in the grassroots cricket. Mahbub Anam, in his speech said, “Now there is nothing possible to manage everything by the remote control.
“I must agree about our limitation and in some respect we have lack of positive thinking, if I could not see the procedure I will think myself as an unsuccessful organiser.” “It is our responsibility to build up the local capacity and we will have to do this. It is difficult to control it from BCB we have to give some responsibility to local organisers. I don’t hesitate to say that in this respect we have some lacking.”
Mahbub Anam, former national cricketer and general secretary of the BCB, replying to some comments of the organisers about the exercise of powers by the ruling party government, political influence, said, “This is nothing important, it has all over the world, everywhere in the world, influence from different sectors normally work out on the national organisations.”
“Anyway, we have already chalked out a pilot project to start Regional Cricket Association with two or three divisions, they will have separate calendar to run the cricket programme at leave their respective regions, involving the districts.” Mahbub Anam also said that there should be a quota in BKSP for BCB to ensure the education of the young cricketers. Mahbub also gave importance to the ownerships of the grounds across the country, as he said that the National Sports Council does not want to release the grounds to sports federation.
Former national cricket captains Khaled Mashud Pilot, Khaled Mahmud Sujon, Sirajuddin Alamgir general secretary Divisional Sports Association -Chittagong, Utpal Shuvra, Sports Editor Prothom Alo, Mostafa Mamun Deputy Editor, Kaler Kantho, Arifur Rahman Babu, Special Correspondent Shakaler Khabar, Ali Asif organsier, Nazmul Abedin Fahim official BCB, also addressed the seminar while Aghor Mondal read the keynote of the seminar. Jalal Ahmed Chowdhury, a renowned
journalist and cricket coach also present.
