At least 13 people including a Sub-Inspector (SI) were killed in separate road crashes across the country, reports UNB. An SI of Rupnagar police station was killed as a bus hit his motorcycle from rear side at Rainkhula on Mirpur Zoo Road in the city yesterday afternoon. SI Uttam Kumar, 32, was heading towards Rainkhula on Mirpur Zoo Road from Sony Cinema Hall riding on a motorbike. When he reached near Rainkhula under Shah Ali police station at around 4:15pm, a bus of 'Eagle Paribahan' hit the motor cycle from its rear side, said Officer in-charge of Shah Ali Police station Md Anwar Hossain.
Uttam Kumar died on the spot, he added. Police arrested the driver of the bus, Belal Hossain, 38, and his assistant from the spot. Besides, at least six people were killed and 50 others were injured in a head-on collision between two buses at Seo Bazar in the Rangpur city yesterday.
The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.
The accident took place when a bus of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) collided head-on with another bus around 12:30pm, leaving four people dead on the spot, said Shariful Islam, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch (North) of Rangpur Police.
Among the injured, one was declared brought dead at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) while another succumbed to his injures after admission to the hospital, he added. The BRTC bus was heading towards Panchagarh from
Bogura while another to Rangpur from Dinajpur, said the DB official.
Twenty of the injured were admitted to the RMCH while the remaining ones released after treatment there, he said.
Of them, the conditions of some 15 victims were stated to be critical, he added.
In Bogura, two people were killed in separate road crashes in Sherpur upazila early yesterday.
Abdul Aziz Mandal, in-charge of Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital police camp, said Sazzad Hossain, 24, was killed and 20 others were injured when a Rangpur-bound bus collided head-on with another bus around 12:30am at Mahipur in Sherpur upazila.
In another incident, Taj Mohammad, 32, a supervisor of a bus, was killed and 25 others were injured when the bus of ‘SR Paribahan’ crashed into a covered van around 2:30am at Dhanut intersection in the upazila.
The injured were taken to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital.
In Chattogram, two bus passengers were killed and 25 others were injured after a train smashed the bus at Baroiyarhat Level Crossing in Mirsarai upazila of the port city early yesterday.
One of the deceased was identified as Sunimal Chakma.
The accident took place when the Chattogram-bound ‘Bijoy Express’ hit the Khagrachhari-bound bus of ‘S Alam Paribahan’ around 4 am, leaving the duo dead on the spot, said Robiul Azam, station officer of Mirsarai Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Rail communications on Dhaka-Chattogram route were disrupted for two and half hours following the accident.
Moreover, two motorbike riders were killed in capital’s Matijheel area yesterday night as a covered van ran over them. The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
