Visitors have been barred from taking to the second floor of Rabindra Memorial Museum at Shahzadpur ever since a large crack developed there four months ago.
The Archeological Department declared the important portion of the infrastructure out of bound for visitors in May this year.
Several furniture and utensils, including cot, easy chair, dressing table, writing table and plates, and lamp piano and palanquin used by Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore are kept in that room.
“No viewer is allowed into the room due to its vulnerable condition,” said Halima Afroze, caretaker of the museum.
She said many visitors come to the museum everyday to see the objects preserved in the museum. But, they cannot watch the relics due to closure of the room.
Afroze also said as the viewers cannot enter into the room and watch the artifacts they go back frustrated. According to sources, to avert any incident, the archeological department has decided to keep it off limits to visitors until its reconstruction.
But, no initiative has yet been taken to repair the vulnerable part of the building, sources claimed.
