Cumilla: A schoolgirl died after falling into a hole made for lifting sand at Khodaitol village in Burichang upazila on Saturday night, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Fahmida Akhter Raisa, a third grader student of Rajpur Government Primary School and daughter of Rabiul Hossain of the village.Locals said Raisa slipped into the hole when she was in the area looking for some ducks around 10 pm.Helena Akhter, 40, daughter of Aziz Mia, tried to save her and almost drowned in the water.Although the locals managed to rescue Helena in great distress, they failed to rescue Raisa and informed the police and fire service and civil defence department, according to Manoj Kumar Dey, officer-in-charge of Burichang Police StationOn information, police recovered the body of Raisa from the hole, the OC added.
