The government will start selling of rice at Taka 10 per kg to 50 lakh ultra-poor families across the country from September 1 aimed at keeping the rice market stable, reports. “A family having five members can buy maximum 30 kilograms of rice in a month. A total of 2.5 crore people of the country will get the opportunity under the programme.” Food Minister Advocate Qamrul Islam told BSS. People from lower income group can buy the rice during the five lean months – March, April, September, October and November under the social safety net scheme inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on September 7, 2016 under ‘The food-friendly programme’. The minister said a total of 50 lakh cards have been distributed to the targeted beneficiaries by the people concerned including upazila executive officers and public representatives.
