Father, son held for torturing schoolboy

RANGPUR: Police detained a man and his son from Hossain Nagar area in the city early Friday in connection with a case filed for torturing a school boy over theft charges, reports UNB. The arrestees are Engrej Ali and his son Jahidul Islam of the area. According to the case statement, Engrej and his son Jahidul caught 10-year-old schoolboy Limon, son of a day-labourer Delwar Hossain, on charges of stealing Tk 50 on Sunday (August 26), said Abu Maruf  Hossain, additional superintendent of Rangpur Police. Later, they tied up Limon with a tree and tortured him. At one stage, he fell unconscious, witnesses said.

Being rescued by locals, Limon was admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Later on August 29, the accused persons tried to settle down the issue in arbitration and offered Tk 13,000 as fine to Limon's family.
