Four pirates held with arms
Barguna: Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) detained four members of two pirate gangs from different areas of Patharghata, near the Sundarbans on Friday, reports UNB.
The detainees were identified as Rumi Sheikh, 28, member of Sattar Bahini, and three members of Zakir Bahini--Emadul Akand, 27, Imran Khan, 28, and Hasmot Ali, 37.
The elite force also recovered two locally made arms, 10 round bullets, a gun,four cartridgesfrom their procession. Four cases were filed with Patharghata Police Station in this regard, said its officer-in-charge Molla Md Khabir Ahmed.
‘Drug trader’ found dead
Chuadanga: Police recovered the bullet-hit body of a suspected drug trader from a garden at Benipur village in the bordering area of Jibannagar upazila on Saturday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Shahin, son of Munnaf Ali of Ashtalapara area in the upazila.
A group of farmers spotted the body while they were going to their cropland in the morning, said Mahmudur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Jibannagar Police Station.
Being informed, police recovered the body around 12 pm and sent it to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
Police suspected that Shahin might have been killed on Friday night following an internal clash over drug business. Shahin was accused in a murder and 10 other drug-related cases, said the OC.
58 held in Satkhira
SATKHIRA: Police, in special drives arrested 58 persons including seven activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from eight upazilas of the district in last 12-hour ending at 8am yesterday morning, reports BSS.
Police also recovered 100 grams of cannabis during the drives.
Sources with the district police said they were picked up from different
areas of the district. During the drives, Satkhira Sadar police arrested 16 persons including three activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, Kalaroa Thana police arrested 11 persons,
