Arrest of attackers on pregnant teacher demanded

The government primary school teachers of Aditmari upazila in Lalmonirhat formed a human chain on the premises of upazila
Nirbahi office on Thursday evening demanding immediate arrest of the culprits for attacking a female teacher.
Mukta Banu,29, an assistant teacher at Balapukur government primary school came under attack while she was taking class on September 2.
Some local criminals, led by ruling Awami League activist Nazrul Islam, allegedly carried out the attack to retaliate against her over punishing a student of the school.
The teacher had pleaded to the culprits that she was pregnant and not to beat her. But the criminals did not pay any heed to the appeal and seriously wounded her.
Nazrul was the ex chairman of the School Managing Committee (SMC). He tried in vain to regain the post of the SMC this year. Subsequently, he developed an enmity with the teachers of the school.
After the incident victim Mukta Banu filed a case against Nazrul Islam and eight others for their involvement in the incident.
Police arrested Nazrul Islam and sent him to jail. But he was released on bail. After getting bail his men are threatening the victims family membes, alleged Mokter Hosen father of the victim. Victims father said she is now under the treatment of a gynecologist. Doctors advised her a complete bed rest.
The teachers demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and exemplarily punishment. Serajul Islam Khan President of the District Primary Teacher Association spoke at the programme.
Among others Safiqul Islam Upazila unit president and Fazlul Bari likhon secretary and victims father Mokter Hosen also addressed the programme. Officer in-charge of Aditmari police station said: We have arrested the prime accused and are trying to arrest the others.
