Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) at a meeting with the Launch Owners’ Association, law enforcing agencies and the local administration decided to conduct mobile court to curb loading in vessels to avert risks of accident during Eid-ul-Azha journey. At the meeting, officials of BIWTA, law enforcing agencies and the administration and representatives of the Launch Owners Association discussed the ways on how to ensure safety for the both Eid special vessels and passengers. The meeting sources said mobile court will be on petrol in the river and port areas during Eid journey to ensure highest safety for the passengers. Abul Bashar Majumdar, BIWTA deputy director, said that BIWTA will not to allow overloading of passengers in the vessels. If any passenger is found travelling on the roof of a launch, the launch authorities will face mobile court.
Captain certificate of the launch will be canceled and route permit suspended. BIWTC announced to stop plying of all the goods-laden cargos and bolgate during Eid. The meeting was held at the conference room of the Barisal river port building with Abul Bashar Majumdar, deputy director, in the chair. It was addressed, among others, by port officer M Mustafizur Rahman, leader of the launch owners association, journalist Ajijul Huq Akkas and Police, RAB and Coast Guard personnel. On the other hand, two coordination meetings organised by the district administration and Barisal Metropolitan Police on the safety of Eid passengers were held at DC conference room and BMP training centre yesterday that took decision to start strike monitoring in different departure places, terminals, and ghats to control all types of passenger harassment.
