5,000 tortoises seized
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) yesterday seized around 5,000 tortoises and detained one in this connection from Ashkona near Shahjalal International Airport in the capital. Talking to The Independent, RAB Legal and Media Wing Deputy Director Major Rumman Mahmud confirmed it and said, a team of RAB-1 seized the tortoises and arrested a man who was identified as Md Hafiz, 40. Lt Col Tuhin Mohammad Masud, commanding officer of RAB-1said, getting secret information, a team of RAB-1 and Wild Life Crime Control Unit of Forest department jointly raided a house in Ashkona Medical College Road and seized around 5,000 tortoises and 50 suitcases.
