Three people, including a policeman, were killed in separate road accidents yesterday. In Comilla: A policeman was burnt to death and nine people, including five police men and four prisoners, were injured in a fire triggered by explosion of fuel tank in police vehicle that overturned after being hit by a truck in Amzad Bazar area of Chauddagram upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Aziz, constable of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. Forhad Hossain, OC of Chauddagram police station, said a team of the Detective Branch of Police was returning to Dhaka from Chittagong in a microbus along with four prisoners. When they reached the area at around 11:30pm, a truck hit their vehicle.
The police vehicle overturned beside the road and caught fire following a blast of its fuel tank, which left Aziz dead on the spot and nine others injured.
On information, police and firefighting units rushed to the spot. The injured were quickly taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital.
As their condition became serious, they were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital after primary treatment early yesterday.
The injured policemen are Sub-inspector Abdul Malek, three constables Anwar Hossain, Nurul Hsan and Sharif Ahmed-while four injured prisoners are Nazim, Shawkat, Bashir, Abdus Shukur and Saddam.
Our Noakhali correspondent reports: A man was killed and three others were injured fowling a collision between two CNG run auto-rickshaws at Binadpur under Sadar upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Khalek, 38, of Ratanpur village.
Officer-in-Charge of sadar police station Anower Hossain said the accident took place at around 8:30pm when a CNG run auto-rickshaw carrying Abdul Khalek and three of his relatives collided with another auto-rickshaw on their way to Maijdee, leaving Khalek dead on the spot and three others injured. Local people sent the injured to Noakhali General Hospital.
In Lalmonirhat: A schoolboy was killed as a microbus ran over him in Ondho Hafejer Mazar area on Lalmonirhat-Burimari road in Hatibandha upazila yesterday morning, reports BSS.
The deceased was Nazmul Hossain, 6, a student of class-I of Purba Sardubi Government Primary School and son of Azizul Islam, a resident of Sardubi village.
Assistant sub inspector of Hatibandha police Asad said the incident took place at about 9.30 am when he was going to school. He died on the spot.
