The excavation work, that started on July 21 in search of 'hidden treasure' underneath a house of Mirpur-10 in the capital, was finally abandoned yesterday by official decree, thanks to as experts did not get presence of any metallic object beneath the house, reports UNB.
Officer in charge (OC) of Mirpur Police Station Dadan Fakir said experts from Geological Survey of Bangladesh and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) went to the house along with Dhaka District Administration Executive Magistrate Tajwar Akram Sakapi Ibne Sajjad at around 1:00pm yesterday.
They conducted various tests, including heart-sensitive scanning till 4:00 pm. After completion of the tests, experts gave their opinion that there was found no presence of metallic objects, the OC Mirpur said adding that the authority concerned declared abandoned the 'Treasure Hunt' operation.
The Police guards, who were deployed after the authority declared postponed the excavation work on July 22, have already withdrawn, Dadan Fakir said.
The entire operation was postponed yesterday to avert the possible risk of the building collapse. "We've postponed the excavation mission to avert any untoward incident," said Tajwar Akram Sakapi Ibne Sajjad, Executive Magistrate of Dhaka District Administration.
The digging work started in the morning of July 21 at the house of Monirul Islam at Road-16 (Block-C) of Mirpur Section-10 in the presence of executive magistrate Md Anwar Uz Zaman as two GDs were filed with Mirpur Police Station earlier about treasures remained hidden beneath the house. Later, the digging was wrapped up around 3:30pm for the day and it was scheduled to resume following day morning.
But the digging work was postponed on July 22 as an executive engineer of the National Housing Authority opined that there was a possibility building collapse and loss of lives of labourers if digging work continued without taking appropriate measures.
Monirul Islam, who is claiming himself as the present owner of the house, earlier said he got information of the hidden treasures from its previous owner who is a Pakistani national. Monirul filed a general diary with Mirpur Police Station on July 14 about it.
