The government has suspended the screening of 'Rana Plaza', a movie based on the rescue of victim Reshma alive from the ruins of Rana Plaza building after 17 days of its collapse, reports UNB. "In the light of the observation of the Appellate Division (AD) the Supreme Court (SC), the screening of 'Rana Plaza' film has been suspended until the decision over the appeal by the Film Censor Appeal Committee comes," said a PID handout on Thursday.
The screening of the movie has been suspended across the country, the handout said. Earlier in the day, the SC turned down an appeal to review the AD's decision which had allowed screening of the film.
Earlier, on August 24, the High Court banned for six months the screening of 'Rana Plaza, saying that the movie was made ignoring the guidelines set by the court earlier.
The court passed the order after hearing a petition filed by president of Bangladesh National Garment Workers Employees League Sirajul Islam.
On September 6, the Supreme Court scrapped the HC order in response to an appeal filed by Shamima Akhter, producer of the movie.
But petitioner Sirajul Islam.moved the Supreme Court's Chamber Judge for a review of the verdict.
On September 10, the AD of the SC ordered maintaining status quo on the movie till September 14.
