Refrigerator sales have soared across the country in the current month as Eid-ul-Azha is due next week. Around 20 lakh refrigerators are sold every year. But three lakh refrigerators, including one lakh deep fridge, have already been sold before Eid this year, say industry insiders.
A lot of people purchase refrigerators and deep fridges ahead of the festival to preserve the meat of sacrificial animals. But the demand for refrigerators has gone up remarkably this year due to a boost of the buying capacity of the people following a stable political environment, according to industry insiders.
According to refrigerator sellers, the sales profit soared to 50-100 per cent during this month.
To post a record sale of refrigerators in this season, the country's leading electronics, electrical and home appliance manufacturer, Walton, has undertaken massive preparations.
Shafiqul Alam, in-charge of the Walton Pavilion, told The Independent that 45-50 per cent sales growth has been noticed this month than the same period last year. As many as 150,000 refrigerators have been sold during this period.
On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, Walton is offering cashbacks, discounts and instalment services on various refrigerators. “We provide three, six and 24 months' installment facilities to our customers,” said Shafiqul Alam.
Walton has set a target of producing 278,000 units of refrigerators during this month, he noted.
Samsung Electronics Bangladesh has come up with three special products exclusively for this Eid.
Mohammod Julfekar Ali, category manager (home appliances) of Samsung Electronics, told The Independent: “We have launched three types of chest fridges with capacities of 205 litres, 265 litres and 305 litres on the occasion of this festival. ”
“We sold 1,000 units of deep fridges in the last 20 days,” he said.
The sales growth has been increased by 100 per cent from the figures of the same period last year. “Normally, we sell 2,000 units of fridges in a month. This eventually increased to 8,000 units this month,” he added.
Mohammod Julfekar Ali said Samsung provides handsome discounts on each fridge depending on the price. “We've also introduced exchange offers during this month of Eid. If someone comes up with their used product, we would exchange them with a new fridge depending on the product's condition,” he added.
Esquire Electronics Ltd. is the authorised sole distributor of the Japanese giant electronics brands GENERAL and SHARP.
Talking to The Independent, Manzurul Karim, general manager of Esquire Electronics Ltd, said that the sales have so far been good. “We import branded refrigerators and sell it locally. But owing to a higher import duty of 117 per cent, it's difficult for us to compete with local brands," he added.
