AL leader hacked to death

Cox’s Bazar: A local Awami League leader was hacked to death at Bangla Bazar in Maheshkhali upazila on Wednesday, reports UNB. The victim was identified as Ziabul Haque, a leader of Matarbari union unit of Awami League and resident of Madhyampara. He was also the former president of union Jubo League. Victim’s brother Sarwar Kamal, also a member of Matarbari union parishad, said a group of miscreants swooped on the AL leader when he went to Bangla Bazar in the upazila headquarters around 4pm and chopped him indiscriminately, leaving him injured. He was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 10pm, said officer-in-charge of Maheshkhali Police Station Pradip Kumar Das. He also said they were trying to arrest the killers. Kamal claimed that a group of extortionists had long been demanding money from business establishments of Ziabul.

Missing youth found dead

Magura: A young man, who remained missing since August 13, was found dead at Hulinagar Ghat in the Madhumati river in Sadar upazila yesterday, reports UNB. The deceased was identified as Biplab Kumar Saha, 22, son of Bidyut Kumar Saha of Rainagar village in Sripur upazila. Being informed by local people, police recovered the body of Biplab from the bank of the river in the morning, said Sirajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Plice Station. As Biplab remained missing since August 13 his family lodged a general diary with Sadar Police Station. Police suspected that miscreants might have killed Biplab over previous enmity and dumped the body there.

31 arrested in Dinajpur

DINAJPUR: Law enforcers, in special drives arrested 31 persons including 10 drug traders from different areas of the district in last 12-hour ending at 8am yesterday morning, reports BSS. Law enforcers also seized 2,000 pieces of cow fattening tablets and 138 bottles of Phensidyl during the drives. Police said they were picked up from different areas of the district on different charges. During the drives, Dinajpur Sadar police arrested six persons including two drug traders with 38 bottles of Phensidyl, Birampur Thana police arrested two persons, Birganj Thana police arrested three drug traders, Kaharole Thana police arrested three persons, Biral Thana police arrested two persons, Khansama Thana police arrested two persons, Nawabganj Thana police arrested three persons, Phulbari Thana police arrested three persons, Parbatipur Thana police arrested two persons and Ghoraghat Thana police arrested two drug traders.
