In a grim reminder to the horrific Rajon murder incident in Sylhet, another teenage boy was beaten up after being tied to a tree in Kaliura village in Duyarabazar upazila on Sunday for allegedly stealing a mobile phone. The victim identified as Kamal (14) is the son of Nur Mohammod. The police said they have arrested Mashuk Miah (26) and Mostufa (45) on Wednesday night in connection with the inhuman incident.
Kamal was picked up from his village by Mashuk, Mostufa and some other people for allegedly stealing a mobile phone and was tied to a tree before being beaten badly. The accused did not pay any heed to the mercy pleas of those who gathered after seeing the little boy being tortured.
Hearing the commotion, Kamal was finally rescued by a neighbour in critical condition. He was sent to the Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for treatment. After four days in the hospital, Kamal came back home on Wednesday. Following the incident, Kamal’s elder brother, Tajul islam, filed an FIR at the Dwarabazar police station, accusing three people. This is the second incident in the district involving torture of a child much like the brutal Rajon murder case. Shelim Newaj, officer-in-charge of Dwarabazar Police Station, said, “A case has been filed in this connection and we have already arrested two people who were involved in the incident.”
