Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday alleged that a section of media is hatching a conspiracy to topple the Sheikh Hasina-led government. “A media faction that collaborated with the masterminds of 1/11 is now conspiring to topple the Sheikh Hasina-led administration at the provocation of a certain political party,” he said.Quader, who is also the minister of road, transport and bridges, came up with the allegation while speaking at a discussion in the city’s Eden Mahila College.
The AL general secretary said he was sensing another political changeover like the 1/11 in the country. “That very section of the media published news items dubbing ruling partymen as attackers, although they were the victims during the student movement for road safety,” he added.
About the return of fugitive killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the minister said the government’s diplomatic efforts to bring back the convicted killers of Bangabandhu would succeed. He also said the Trump administration has shown the green light to the government regarding the return of Lt Col (sacked) AM Rashed Chowdhury, a convicted killer of Bangabandhu.
He further said two law firms are working in the US and Canada to bring back the fugitive convicted killers Lt Col (sacked) AM Rashed Chowdhury and Maj. (Retd) Noor Chowdhury.
Quader criticised BNP leaders for celebrating Khaleda Zia’s birthday on August 15. He said this attitude of the BNP is more brutal than the killing of Bangabandhu.
“We condemn such politics. Those who set such a foul example are now engaged in hatching a conspiracy to topple the government. But they will not succeed,” he said.
