On August 9th, the Yunnan Cultural Industry Expo (YCIE) 2018 was declared open. All pavilions were filled with handicrafts, high-tech devices, animated comic productions and other cultural and creative products. These exhibits showcased the rapidly developing cultural industries of Yunnan province. The expo also highlighted local cultural heritage and demonstrated Yunnan people’s confidence in the future.
More than 1,200 cultural companies at home and abroad participated in the event, making the YCIE the largest cultural festival in the province. Visitors were bombarded with innovative and ingenious ideas at the venue. In No. 6 Pavilion, dedicated to Kunming culture, science, technology, VR, AR and CR technologies were employed to present local history and the heritage of ancient buildings in new ways.
In No. 1 Pavilion, jewels and jade carvings, jadeite, rubies, sapphires, emeralds and red agate objects attracted a large number of visitors. In No. 2 Pavilion, which specialised in handicraft articles, some 20 artists from China, Japan and South Korea revealed to an amazed audience 100 sets of wonderful wood-fired pottery works.
At the First Lijiang Ancient Town Art Bazaar, the only YCIE offsite event located outside of Kunming, a series of public performances were staged. Visitors feasted their eyes and ears on presentations featuring intangible cultural heritage items, folk songs and Naxi wedding customs. There was also live music, magic tricks and saxophone solos by foreign artists such as a Scottish three-person synth-pop band. The traditions of an ancient civilization and the modern arts were blended, and tourists, local people and businesses were all actively involved. In addition, featured cultural activities were held at the Yunfang Cultural and Creative Industry Park and the 871 Cultural and Creative Industry Park, making this year’s YCIE even more exciting.
