BTRC cancels licence of 33 ISPs
Bangladesh Telecom Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has cancelled the licence of 33 internet service providers (ISPs) for not renewing their licences in time.
BTRC yesterday issued an order in this regard, said MA Taleb Hossain, director of Legal and Licensing Division of BTRC.
BTRC gave those organisations one month of time to clear their arrears but the ISPs did not clear the due amount. According to a 2001 law (amended in 2010), the companies would have to pay fine up to Tk 300 crore if they continue to provide service after cancellation of the licences.
According to a Public Recovery Act 1993, a case will be lodged against those organisations for not paying their licence renewal fee in time.
MA Taleb also said that even though sufficient time was given to those organisations they did not pay heed, even they did not even pay for the national revenue sharing. Thus BTRC have cancelled their licences. BTRC yesterday asked those organisations to stop all their activities, informed Taleb.
The banned ISPs are: Nationwide ISP ----Teleba ICT, AGI Communica-tion, Dhaka Telephone Company limited, Proshika Computer Systems, ABSCO, Tele Barta.
Central zone ISP --- Geotel Bangladesh, Drik Alokchitra Granthagar, Sonargaon Online Services, Global Network, United Communications Services, BJ Trading, Tntech Online, Media Multimedia, Asia Net, BUCT Communication, I-net, Network Solution. South-East zone ISP--- Earthlink IT communications, Arnafully Online, Mitel Commu-nication, Oishy Network, Shadhin Media Centre and Cable Network, Padma Communication, Sea Bech Online, Jesore City Cable.
North-East zone ISP----Srimangal Online, Mynet, MLB Net, Nahian Technology, A1 Online, K Hossain Cable Network, Moni Enterprise.
