Youth held with arms, ammo
Benapole: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a young man along with two pistols and 100 round bullets from Kagojpur area here on Saturday night, reports UNB.
The arrestee was identified as Riyat Hossain, 37, son of Oli Ahmed ofBadarkhalivillage in Chattogram.
Being tipped-off, a BGB team raided a Chattogram-bound bus of ‘Shyamoli Paribahan’ around 11:30pm and arrested Riyat along with arms and ammunition,LT Col Ariful Haque, commanding officer of BGB-49
battalion.
The arrestee was handed over to Benapole Port Police Station after filing of a case there.
300 grams heroin seized
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized 300 grams of heroin from frontier Clubpara area in the Sadar upazila on Saturday midnight, reports BSS.
On a tip off, a patrol team of BGB from Poladanga border out post conducted a raid in the area at about 11.45 pm and recovered the heroin worth about Taka 6 lakh in an abandoned condition, a BGB official said.
The heroin was deposited with the Narcotics Control Department.
Two to die for killing woman

A court yesterday convicted two people and sentenced them to death for killing a woman after rape in Mohanbagh area of Sibganj upazila in 2014.
The condemned convicts are Abdul Mannan, son of late Kantu Mandal and his second wife Sufia Begum of the area.
After examining all the records and witnesses, Additional District and Sessions Judge Shawkat Ali handed down the verdict.
The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each and acquitted another accused Abul Bashar as his guilt count not be proved.
According to the case statement, Selina Begum, who used to work as a domestic help in various houses, was murdered by the convicts after being raped by Abdul Mannan on September 10, 2014, said Additional Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Anjuman Aha.
On the next day, police recovered the hanging body from a mango orchard in Selimabad area in the upazila.
Later, victims’ son Arif Hossain filed a murder case with Shibganj Police Station.
After investigation, Sub-inspector Lutfar Rahman submitted a chargesheet to the court on May 31, 2015, accusing Mannan, Sufia and Bashar.
3 ‘drug peddlers’ arrested

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested three drug peddlers along with yaba tablets in Dewanganj upazia of Jamalpur district on Saturday night.
The arrested drug peddlers are Md Jamil Miah, 22, son of Rang Miah, Md Anwar Hossain, 22, son of Md Sufian Miah and Md Matin, 16, son of Md Moksed Ali of village Birbhabashur in Dewanganj upazila of the district.
Jamalpur RAB-14 sources said acting on a tip off a team of elite force led by Company Commander Md Mofizur Rahman raided Charbhabashur area in the upazila at 11:30 pm and arrested them. RAB members recovered 192 pieces of yaba tablets from their possession.
A case was registered with Dewanganj police station.
Snakebite kills schoolboy
Magura: A schoolboy died fromsnakebiteat Bhatoail in Shalikha upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Topai Biswas, 10, son of Parimal Biswas and a class V student of Bhatoail Government Primary School.
Rabiul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shalikha Police Station, said that Topai died as a venomous snake bit him while he was sleeping at his room in
early hours.
