In keeping up with the digital age, about a dozen online shopping sites are now offering sacrificial cows and goats for sale, complete with home delivery and post-delivery payment.
The sites mostly cater to Bangladeshis living abroad who wish to offer ‘qurbani’ at home, and people at home who want to avoid the hustle and bustle of cattle markets.  
Some popular online marketplaces have been advertising their services relentlessly ahead of Eid-ul-Azha on social networking sites (SNS), and even via mobile text messages.
“Buy your cows for Eid-ul-Azha at cheapest price online,” reads a pop-up add on a popular SNS. “Pre-order today!” says another.
Most orders are placed well ahead, and most suppliers take cash on delivery, though some also take online payment through credit or debit cards.

“I decided at the last minute to get a goat for Qurbani Eid last year, so I ordered one online and the owner from Savar delivered it himself to my house in Dhanmondi the night before Eid. I liked the animal and paid him on the spot,” said Asif Rehman, a businessman.  He plans to do the same this year.
There is no separate charge for delivery of the chosen animal, although some sellers may ask for travel costs if you don’t like what you get and decide to return the animal.
