RANGPUIR: Four persons were killed and 40 others injured in a road accident at Madarpur point on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway in Pirganj upazila yesterday, reports BSS.
Police said the accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound bus from Rangpur collided head-on with Kurigram-bound bus while overtaking a speeding truck at around 1 pm, leaving Shariful Islam, 18, of Formuder Para under Mithapukur upazila in Rangpur, dead on the spot and injuring 43 others.
Police sent the injured to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex with the help of the locals.
Another injured Belal Hossain, 25, of Kurigram succumbed to his injuries at the health complex. Some of the injured were shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital as their conditions deteriorated.
Later, Suman Mian, 19, of Kurigram and Shamim, 50, of Nilphamari, died at the Rangpur Medical College yesterday afternoon.
