Swastika Mukhopadhyay to perform at IGCC today

Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC), in collaboration with Sri Aurobindo Institute of Culture, Kolkata, is organising an evening of Panchakabi songs with Swastika Mukhopadhyay from Shantiniketan today at the Gulshan premises of IGCC in the city.
Swastika Mukhopadhyay is a senior faculty and professor in the Department of Rabindra-Sangeet at Sangeet Bhavan, Visva-Bharati, Shantiniketan. Being a daughter of eminent musicians Dr. Gobinda Gopal and Smt. Madhuri Mukhopadhyay, Swastika has been raised in a musical atmosphere since her childhood. She discovered the world of Rabindranath Tagores music when she came to study at Visva-Bharati University, Shantiniketan. Her first formal training in Rabindra-Sangeet was under the noted singer Smt. Nilima Sen.
Today she is an exponent par excellence of two diverse styles of Bengali music: the songs of DL Roy, Dilip Kumar Roy, Atul Prasad Sen and Rajanikanta Sen on one hand, and Rabindra-Sangeet on the other. In 1973, Hindustan Record Company brought out her rendering of Dwijendrageeti. A few years later, HMV brought out her first audio cassette of Rabindra-Sangeet. Over the years, she has released many more cassettes and CDs mostly of songs of Tagore. She performs regularly for the All India Radio and Television channels in India.
She has visited Bangladesh and Japan several times, performing extensively and to great critical acclaim. She has also conducted several workshops in these countries. She was awarded Kobi Jotindranath Sengupta Smriti Samman in 2013.
