Welcome Back: A great entertainer

Welcome Back: A great entertainer

‘Welcome Back’ is the sequel of the 2007 Hindi movie ‘Welcome’. The original movie was a smash hit at the box office, and it seems the sequel is heading in the same direction. Although the plot of the sequel is continuation of the original one, the introduction of some new characters makes the story refreshing.
The director, Anees Bazmee, has been working in the Hindi movie industry since the early 90s. He has directed more than 12 films and impressed the audience with a number of hits like ‘No Entry’, ‘Welcome’ and ‘Singh Is King’. In his latest offering ‘Welcome Back’ he had the luxury of working with a brilliant script, a big budget and a talented cast. The film stars Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor,  Naseeruddin Shah, John Abraham, Paresh Rawal, Shruti Haasan, Dimple Kapadia and Ankita Shrivastava in the main roles.
The plot is not a run-of-the-mill story. It has comedy, romance, action, suspense and all the necessary elements to make it entertaining. The movie is sure to tickle you with laughter from the word go. The entire viewing experience is like a laughing rollercoaster ride till the end credits.
The script is co-written by Anees Bazmee and Rajiv Kaul. Both critics and viewers have given positive reviews of the movie. Before its release, the news of Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif backing out of the movie had some fans worried. But both their roles were nicely filled by John Abraham and Ankita Shrivastava. The ace card of the movie is the wonderful acting of Naseeruddin Shah. It is unusual for   Shah, one of the most talented actors in Hindi movies, to appear in a slapstick comedy like this. Of course in an interview to the media he once said: “I do commercial films when I feel that my cufflinks are in need of shining”. He is immaculate in his role in this film.
Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor  are excellent in reprising their old roles; it is a treat to watch them together. For movie buffs who love crazy comedies, it is a must watch.
However, it would be unfair to the readers to reveal the full synopsis, so we will leave that for the audience to find out. One last thing, the running time of the movie is 152 minutes, and many critics felt that it could have been 20 minutes shorter.
