The low departed on Tuesday night towards West Bengal and Odisha of India to become a well-marked low overland, anchoring over north-west India.
But the convulsions in the Bay left the country experiencing a hot and humid day, without the rain necessary to keep it cool. The temperature recorded in the capital yesterday (Wednesday) was 33.4 degrees Celsius, a little down from 33.6C on Tuesday.
The country’s highest maximum temperature was 35.4C in Sylhet, followed by 33.5C in Chattogram.
With the low gone, calm has returned to the Bay, free to churn out moisture to produce rain-bearing clouds. However, the process may be delayed a little by a couple of days as the monsoon has become less active over the country and moderate over North Bay, from where the clouds are generated to sprinkle showers overland.
"The rain may be delayed by at least a couple of days. For the full blast of monsoon showers, we may have to wait for five days," a meteorologist at the Dhaka Met Office said yesterday.
"Only then can we expect the sultry days and nights to go. There will be some scattered showers, but not enough to wash the heat away," the meteorologist said.
