RANGPUR: The month-long mosquito elimination campaign is being accelerated to turn Rangpur into a clean city free from ‘Chikungunya’ and ‘Dengu’ diseases soon, reports BSS.
Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa said this while handing over a ‘Fogger Machine’ to officials of the section concerned of Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) at a function held at City Bhaban on Sunday afternoon, a press release said yesterday.
Earlier, Mayor Mostafa launched the month-long ‘Mosquito Elimination Programme-2018’ on April 18 in the city.
With City Councilor Sekendar Ali in the chair, City Councilors Mahbubar Rahman Manju, Haradhan Roy, Sirajul Islam, among others, addressed the function.
Sekendar Ali discussed the significance of maintaining cleanliness at office premises, institutions, homesteads, drainage and sewerage systems in the city to prevent breeding of mosquito and spreading of related diseases.
Mayor Mostafa said, “Addition of another ‘Fogger Machine’ to the cleaning section of RpCC would accelerate the mosquito elimination campaign to destroy mosquitoes through spraying insecticides by the middle of this month in the city.”
“Side by side the month-long mosquito elimination programmes, we are conducting the Clean City Campaign for one-hundred days since April 13 to maintain cleanliness in the city.” he said.
He expressed satisfaction over the successes achieved during the past one fortnight in maintaining cleanliness at office premises, institutions, homesteads and drainage and sewerage systems in the city. He also called upon the citizens to extend their spontaneous support in making the mosquito elimination programme successful in the city.
