Terming Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib as a unique example in political empowerment of women, Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said Fazilatunnesa Mujib and Bangabandhu were inseparable and she (Bangamata) used to play vital role in running the affairs of Awami League, reports UNB.
Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said this at a discussion on 'Role of Fazilatunnesa Mujib in Bangalee's Liberation War' at the National Press marking the 88th birth anniversary of Bangamata, organized by Women Journalist Network, Bangladesh.
She said "Bangamata was not only part of Bangabandhu's inspiration but also she inspired the whole nation in the long movement for liberation of Bangalees with her visionary political wit."
Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said Bangabandhu's wife played an active role in building Bangladesh as an independent country. The autobiography of Bangabandhu is the reflection of Bangamata Mujib's foresight and wisdom which is known to all.
"Fazilatunnesa Mujib helped Bangabhandhu make the right decision all the time with patience in all sorts of problems in every situation," added Speaker.
National Press Club general secretary Farida Yasmin presided over the meeting while former Information Commissioner and Dhaka University professor Dr Golam Rahman, Managing Director and chief editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Abul Kalam Azad, Bangladesher Khobor editor Azizul Islam and journalist Shahnaz Munni spoke, among others.
