‘Raja Ebong Onnyanya’ (King of the Dark Chamber), a much-acclaimed production of popular theatre troupe Prachyanat, is set to return to the stage after a hiatus of three years. Two shows of the play will be staged today and tomorrow at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital.
The play is directed by Azad Abul Kalam, which has been adapted from Tagore’s play ‘Raja’, the tale of a Utopian land where the king’s presence is felt in the peace, harmony and disciplined lives of the people. In this land, the king is never seen and he is not ostentatious or greedy. The director takes the original story and treats it with a new approach, portraying the omnipresent ruler as a metaphor that stands as a force against chaos, exploitation and imperialism.
The cast of the play includes Afsana Mimi, Rubaiya Manzur/Reetu Sattar, Topon Majumder, Sanjida Preeti, Shakhawat H Rezvi, Aslamozzaman Polash and others.
Tickets are available in front of the venue before the show.
